Why a Gift From You is Important

There are no significant natural funding mechanisms for addressing end-of-life issues in Nebraska. And, although nearly 100 percent of Nebraska’s hospices are members of NHPCA, these dues now make up less than 20 percent of the budget (vs. 100 percent in 2001).

Your contribution in support of the mission and activities of NHPCA will make a tremendous difference. NHPCA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization working to create a Nebraska where no one lives in pain or dies badly. Your contribution moves Nebraska one step closer to this vision.

Where Your Gift Goes

A gift to NHPCA supports our work in five areas:

Professional education for those that work with end-of-life issues including hospice nurses, physicians, administrators, social workers, chaplains, and volunteer coordinators. Activities include the sponsoring of workshops, new curriculum, and an end-of-life conference where 350 end-of-life professionals come together each year. NHPCA’s goal is that all those who work with Nebraskans near the end of life have the best information and skills to meet the needs of those individuals, and their loved ones.

Community Engagement – Through community engagement activities, NHPCA increases the public’s awareness of end-of-life issues including promoting hospice, empowering Nebraskans to seek good pain management, and encouraging decision making on end-of-life issues in advance. NHPCA works closely with the media; administers the state’s Hospice-Veteran Partnership as well as the state’s Pain Initiative; and implements public outreach campaigns.

Advocacy – NHPCA advocates for end-of-life systems change by educating Nebraskans and policy makers on end-of-life issues. NHPCA's goal is to promote better ways for Nebraskans to share their wishes for care in advance, to have those wishes respected when they cannot speak for themselves, and to receive hospice care without having to reject potential life-extending medical interventions.

Research – Nebraska is the only state conducting regular statewide surveys of perceptions of end-of-life issues. The Nebraska End-of-Life Survey is one of many research projects implemented by NHPCA; NHPCA also collects data on hospice usage.

Quality Improvement – NHPCA encourages and supports the use of measures to assist Nebraska hospices and others who work with those living with life-limiting conditions to track, report, and continuously improve the quality of their services. As an example, NHPCA administered a national quality program in hospices across Nebraska.

You are welcome to make a gift in honor or in memory of a loved one. And, we would be happy to notify someone of your gift if you choose.

Thank you for your tax-deductible support of this important work.
