How to Get Involved - Advocate

Make Your Voice Heard

Advocates are needed to help educate Nebraskans and Nebraska policy makers on many end-of-life issues.
  • Half of Nebraskans know little or nothing about hospice or its benefits
  • Nearly two out of three Nebraskans have not yet identified someone to make medical decisions for them if they are unable to speak for themselves
  • In a handful of Nebraska counties, law enforcement officers still arrive at expected hospice deaths as if investigating a crime
  • While nine of ten Nebraskans say they would want to die at home, less than two of ten do
  • Nearly half of Nebraskans say they are afraid that their doctor will not believe them when they say they are in pain

Among the most powerful tools for explaining hospice are the personal stories of those who have used hospice. Please share briefly here in your own words your experience with hospice. We will make select stories available online and for use with presentations across the state. Please let us know if we may use your name in sharing your story.

Your voice for hospice and telling the story of good end-of-life care is crucial to the statewide educational work needed to enact positive change on end-of-life issues across Nebraska.
